Autumn is the best time of the year.
Dan and I went to Brewfest in Asheville this weekend and had such a lovely time. We stopped through Athens on our way and went to thrift stores in Tuscaloosa. We took tons of pictures, which you can see here: www.flickr.com/photos/jamiemurphey/
Fall is the best time to fall in love. Dan is amazing. We are a little retarded over each other. And it is just so fun. I'm all aglowy.
Today I cooked veggie burritos and broccoli for lunch and it was the perfect meal for a cold fall day. I felt high after we were done eating. I love being little Jamie homemaker and cooking and feeding people. I fought it for so long and it feels really good to just relax into it and let myself enjoy cooking and mending and those small and simple little domestic things that I find so profoundly satisfying. I can't explain it, and I sometimes think that I've lost my mind because of the negative connotations of those activities, but I do love that process of making a place that is nourishing and beautiful. Martha Stewart be damned!

Martha Stewart would look much better with a Washington Monument enema cleansing her hard twisted shit of a soul...
You, my dear, rock and are most beautiful. And if I have to eat meal after meal of your totally awesome rocking cooking, then so be it... so... so be it...
Loving the fuck out of you,
Awww...it's so nice to see two ppl retarded in love!
And there's no shame in indulging in domestic duties---I myself baked and iced a cake just last week--AND i put sprinkles on top!
I think engaging in non-mediated activities is a wonderful way to reconnect with oneself. No phone lines or computer screens to get in the way...just cake mix and a hot oven. Good times!
you are so right, teensy robot! I feel so real and living and beautiful when I'm all sweaty makin' over that stove.
We're comin' to Memphis next weekend and taking a tour of your apartment complex. I have a jones for those apartments. All that gleeming hardwood, those beautiful windows. Maybe we can all have lunch?
Well, when you're gettin' breathless over the charm, just remember that the utilities are shared---meaning even if I NEVER turn on the heat but Jo-Blo next door uses heat constantly, I still have to chip in and pay for it because the entire complex is billed in one bill from the utility company. The apt mgr then splits up the bill based on some mysterious formula and we have to pay for it.
(FYI: I was quite frugal with the heat last winter and still paid $200+ a month for heat and water.)
Oh, and the heat does NOT turn on until it's 48 degrees outside. It's been in the low 50s the past few nights--a real titty pincher and we've had zero heat. It makes for great fun in the morning.
Your best bet is to get a place with central heat/air. Architectural charm is great; but you'll be cursing it when you can't feel your feet in December or when you've lost so much water in July your mouth feels like cotton.
Just want you to know exactly what you're getting into...
LOVE!
p.s. I'll be in Oxford Saturday, so perhaps Sunday for lunch? (If I'm not horribly hung over from Halloween parties the night before?)
speaking of heat bills
might i throw in that in bklyn (why, even in the WHOLE of nyc) the landlord is required by law to pay heating and water bills. meaning you have a cheap $30/2 mo. (max) gas bill (if you have a gas stove), and similarly priced cheap electric bill.
ahem!
Yes, but can you get 1,200 sq ft of space, hdwd floors, and original molding for $700/month?
Ah, the joys of real estate. :-)
Hey! The heat came on! yayyyyy!
maybe we'll keep looking for a place. I want something that will give Fletch room to run, and I want those lovely architectural details, but central heat and air would be much much better...
Well, i have a feeling everyone's going to feel the pinch this winter---the utility co sent out a notice saying prices are going up 70% across the board---yuk!!
I didn't mean to scare you off completely from the complex---it is lovely and roomy. I just wanted you to know exactly what you were getting into. Plus, we have a fabulous view of the park---perfect for doggies who like to run free. (Well, as freely as one can run on a leash...)
